Moving is hard enough as it is, but when you move with a baby, it can make even the most seasoned of parents want to, well, cry like a baby. In honor of September being Baby Safety Month, the moving experts at Man With A Van have come up with three moving tips that will make moving with a baby easy-peasy.
Always Pack Up Non-Essential Items First
When it comes time to start packing up your old home, packing up your baby’s non-essential items first will make your life easier once you’re unpacking in your new home. Non-essential items include:
- Back-up pacifiers
- Extra toys
- Additional blankets
- Certain clothing items (such as off-season items)
Once these items are packed into your moving box, remember to clearly mark it with “Nursery” on all four sides so that you can quickly find it on moving day.
Be Sure to Pack a Baby Bag
While non-essential items can go into moving boxes, you’re going to want essential baby items on hand at all times. These items include:
- Baby bottles
- Baby wipes
- Bath items
- Sippy cup
- Favorite toys
- Preferred baby blankets
Unlike with the non-essential items, these pieces should be put into a baby bag that you keep close to you throughout your moving day.
Confront the Nursery First With Unpacking
You’ve made it through the packing and moving, and now it’s time for unpacking in your new place! Moving with a baby means that your baby’s needs are first priority, and because of that, your baby’s nursery is the first room that needs to get set up. Since this is the first room you’ll be tackling, it’s important to remember to put those boxes into your moving vehicle last—this way they’ll be the first boxes you unload.
